William Crozier William Crozier was born in Glasgow in 1930 and is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art. Since then he has lived, worked and exhibited in London, Dublin, Paris and Malaga. In 1991 he was elected a member of Aosdana and in 1994 he was awarded the Oireachtas Gold Medal for Painting. There are documentary films on Crozier made by BBC Scotland (1970) and RTE (1993).

Sonja Stringer The first ten years of my life were spent in Dublin, and the warmth of its people and the lyrical sense of language have stayed with me. Poems are often the inspiration, reading the text brings spontaneous colour texture and form. I studied Fine Art sculpture at London’s Royal College of Art and Central St Martins.

Prof. Jake Harvey DA; RSA Jake Harvey is head of the School of Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. He works from a studio in the Scottish Borders. Sculptures of his are in public and private collections in Europe, America and Japan. Commissions include the ‘Hugh MacDiarmid Memorial’ and ‘Tools for the Shaman’ (Hunterian Museum). The artist is represented by Art First, Cork St, London.

Alan Davie Born in 1920 at Grangemouth, he studied at Edinburgh College of Art. He has exhibited extensively, notably in London, New York, Brazil, Holland and Australia. Davie is an accomplished jazz musician and jewellery maker. He has lectured at the Central School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal College of Art, both in London.

He is best known for The Straw Locomotive, The Paper Boat, A Day Down a Goldmine, Spires and now Vent 2000.

Bernadette Cotter Bernadette Cotter was born in Ballingeary in County Cork in 1958. Trained as a teacher, she studied painting at the National College of Art and Design and completed a Masters in sculpture at the San Francisco Art Institute (1989), supported with a Fulbright scholarship. Cotter’s art practice includes installation and performance, and, recently, the medium of video. She has exhibited in the USA, Hawaii, Korea and Ireland.

Simon Fraser Born in 1950, Simon Fraser graduated from Grays, Aberdeen. Working as an artist, he has exhibited widely (Sarajevo, Paris, London, Chicago) in painting and printmaking. Collections of his work are in the art galleries of Hull and Aberdeen, the BBC and Life Assurance. He now produces books for publishers and designs for CD ROM and web.

Olwen Shone After graduating from Glasgow School of Art, she moved to the island of North Uist in the Western Isles. She makes pictures, through the medium of photography, which are a poetic response to the intimate forms and patterns to be found in this rural landscape. The wilderness and isolation within this landscape form the main source of inspiration for the photographs.

Alasdair Gray Alasdair Gray was born in Glasgow in 1934. He graduated in Mural Painting from the City Art School and was a part-time art teacher till 1962. He had several exhibitions, and wrote plays for TV, radio and theatre. His first novel, Lanark, appeared in 1981.

Deirdre O’Mahony Deirdre O’Mahony was born in Limerick and studied at the Regional Technical College in Galway and St Martin’s School of Art in London. She has had solo exhibitions in the Guinness Hopstore, Galway Arts Centre, the Lukacs Gallery at Fairfield University in the USA, Context Gallery and Limerick City Gallery of Art. She is a painting lecturer at the Galway- Mayo Institute of Technology.

Kathleen O’Donnell Kathleen O’Donnell was born in London in 1968. Educated at Crawford College of Art, she graduated from Limerick School of Art in Fine Art (sculpture) and completed an MA from the University of Central England. She received the Emma Jesse Phipps Award in 1993, and has exhibited in Ireland, England and France.

Diarmuid Delargy Diarmuid Delargy was born in Belfast in 1958 and graduated in Fine Art from the University of Ulster and with an MA from the Slade School of Art. Recently, Delargy has worked on a series of prints inspired by Samuel Beckett and also collaborated with poet Paul Muldoon. A member of Aosdána, he won the gold medal at the European Large Format Print Exhibition, Dublin (1991).

Alice McCartney Artist Alice McCartney was born in Derry and currently lives and works in Belfast. This multidisciplinary artist creates installations using sculpture, sound and photography. Much of her work is informed by the years she spent working in the area of socially engaged art. She is Education Officer at the Ormeau Baths Gallery.

Ian Charles Scott Ian Charles Scott comes from Wick, and studied film and painting. He has lived in Germany, but is now in New York City. His work is in museums in the UK, the USA, Germany and Japan. He seeks creativity in its raw true form; he is concerned with figuration – shape, colour, intensity, detail and love.

Sean Hillen Sean Hillen was born in Newry in Co. Down and is a graduate of the London College of Printing and the Slade School. He works in a variety of media and is well known for his photomontage works on the ‘Troubles’ and the collage series ‘Irelantis’. Hillen has also been involved with stage set designs, pop video commissions and web and graphic design.

Mary Kelly Artist and film maker Mary Kelly has a Psychology and Philosophy degree, fine art diploma and film degree. Her films have been shown at festivals including Internazionale del Cinema in Chile, Tai Wan Festival and NYU Tish School of the Arts in Cantor Film Center

Anthony Haughey Anthony Haughey was born in Northern Ireland in 1963. He has been exhibiting and publishing since the early ’90s. He was the recipient of the International Mosaique Award 2000 for his series, ‘Disputed Territory’, and recently exhibited and published the artist’s book Monitor in Dublin. He is currently exhibiting in ‘Politics of Place’. Haughey is curated by Bildmuseet, Sweden.

Silvana McLean Silvana McLean was born in Motherwell in 1953 and studied drawing and painting at Glasgow School of Art. Attending evening classes in etching at Edinburgh College of Art in 1977 kindled an interest in this medium which continues and embraces the developments in non-toxic etching methods which have been used to create the image for An Leabhar Mòr.

Craig Mackay Brought up in Brora, Sutherland, Craig MacKay left school at fifteen and worked in the oil industry. He later went off to study photography at Napier University, Edinburgh. Back in the Highlands he has produced a very contemporary body of work which typically constructs a dark, brooding but richly ornamented reality evoking noirish ironies and supernatural menace.

Her work is represented in many public and private collections in Ireland, the USA, Germany and the Netherlands. As part of the 2001 Queens Belfast festival, she created a public artwork on Divis Tower Block.

Oona Hyland Oona Hyland studied at the Slade School of Art and completed an MA at Queen’s University, Belfast. Her international experience includes creating etched limestone panels for the Lisbon underground. She is currently working on an outdoor sculpture commission for Inis Oírr, one of the Aran Islands.

George A. Macpherson ARSA He was born in Sutherland, in 1935, and studied at Edinburgh College of Art. A travelling scholarship gave him working time in Spain, before he became a lecturer in drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art. He has shown work regularly in solo and group exhibitions. He now lives and works as a painter in Musselburgh.

Elizabeth Ogilvie Elizabeth Ogilvie is a lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art. One of the most compelling influences on her work has been the Island of St Kilda and its finite location. Recent works include the ‘Liquid Room’, a spectacular water installation; a fusion of art, architecture and science housed in a dockside warehouse on the Forth. She lives on the Fife coast with the artist, Robert Callendar.

Calum Angus Mackay He was brought up on Lewis and graduated from Glasgow School of Art having studied Fine Art Photography. He was awarded the Richard Hough Photography Scholarship, then took up residencies in both Ireland and Wales. Mackay has exhibited widely throughout UK and mainland Europe, and recently returned to Lewis working via the media as a Gaelic television producer/director.

In 1976 she was appointed a lecturer in drawing and painting at Grays. She has exhibited widely, won numerous awards and has work in many public and private collections in the UK and abroad.

Eileen Ferguson Eileen Ferguson is a Scottish artist living in Co. Monaghan. Since graduating with an MA in Fine Art from the University of Ulster, she has exhibited in Ireland, Scotland, England and America. She has also completed several commissions and is active conducting workshops, residency schemes and working as arts co-ordinator for the Monaghan arts office.

Cóilín Murray Cóilín Murray is a printmaker and painter living in Co. Cork. His work has been exhibited internationally in Berlin, Cracow, China and the USA and is included in many public collections. Recent solo shows have taken place at the Hunt Museum in Limerick and the Hallward Gallery in Dublin. He represented Ireland in the Print Biennial in Norway in 1989 and the 9th British International Print Biennial.
